Use Your Loafers

Every time I did something stupid when I was a kid, my Nan always used to say to me ‘use your loaf.’ Be smart, use your head and buy a pair of loafers this season because they are outstanding!

They have been around for a few seasons now, Alexander McQueen being one of the brilliant designers to go down the road of the classic loafer style.
I think I have made some hints about my feelings about this style of shoes; slippers make me feel like some kind of royal. Yes, I know that sounds a bit weird to say, but they just have this kind of elegance about them and I can imagine the Queen wearing something like them.

So here are a few of my current favourites…

Valentine Embroidered Loafers. £610

Valentino Embroidered Loafers. £610

These are incredible. The sheer amount of detail in these shoes is brilliant; the embroidery is so intricate and the butterfly design is beautiful. I think the subtle colours and tones make them perfect for the eventual change in seasons and weather (there is no chance that all this sunshine is going to last much longer!) They are a sure fire way to add a pop of coulour into an autumn/ winter wardrobe! I think these would be best suited with a fairly plain outfit, well perhaps plain is not the word, what i mean is maybe monochrome so that the shoes can really take the centre stage and be the focus point. And why not, they’re awesome; show them off!

Now these are a thing of beauty; I love how they almost look like a pair of ballet shoes but the metallic toe gives them the element of class you get from a pair of slippers. Even just looking a the picture here, you can see that the leather looks incredibly soft, no chance of getting blisters in these bad boys! The metallic toe is a simple but effective detail that pushes these shoes into being ordinary into extra-ordinary! I don;t know why but I think these would be best suited with something like a pair of cropped black trousers or short skirt. These shoes need to be the centre of attention. Understated class and elegance. I need these in my life!

Louboutin Rolling Spikes Flats. £845

Louboutin Rolling Spikes Flats. £845

Now these are a pair of statement shoes! The black velvet gives them the sought after royal appeal, well maybe it’s only an appeal for me, but hey they are cranked up a notch with the all over black spikes! The low heel will give you that little bit of height all women are searching for, but not enough to provide the sore feet that inevitably follows. I’m trying really hard to find something about these that I don’t like, but I actually can’t think of anything! For me, I think these are like the perfect pair of loafers; they are classy, elegant but they have an understated style that is outstanding! And then who can forget the famous red sole, It’s all about the red.

Use your loaf, get a pair of loafers this season. You wont be sorry

I love Converse-ation

These are what my dad calls baseball shoes; he had a pair of them when he was my age, can’t believe he was actually on trend with something!

Converse Chuck Taylor, £50

Just the sight of these iconic shoes brings up images of lazy summer days, adventures with back packs and great memories. I can’t tell you exactly what it is that makes these shoes so, I don’t even know that right word to describe it, special maybe? Does that even make sense?

They were first introduced to the world in 1917 and have just continued to grow in popularity as the years go by. I don’t think there’s a style that these shoes actually won’t work well with; skinny jeans, shorts anything works!! Like so many summer styles, you are given the luxury of style and comfort.
There may perhaps be a limit as to the occasions where you can wear these though; I would say these are strictly off duty only, not suitable for the office, sorry!!

But with so many styles and colour options available, the biggest decision you’ll make is what colour first?!

How awesome are these please? I just looked on the office.com website for these three; they are just a tiny selection of the variety available. I love how you can get a pair like the leopard ones that are completely crazy and wild and then the little polka dot ones that are incredibly cute and dainty!

I love converse, there is no reason why every body can’t own a pair of these, they are perfect for the off duty times and should be a wardrobe staple!

Skate Style

Slip on Skate shoes; previously seen on the younger male generation that have baggy clothes, wear their trousers too low and always carry around a skate board. Hence the name. Think Travis from Clueless. But believe it or not, they have undergone a complete style transformation and are now the go-to-shoe for the off duty look.

Perfect for this season, the slip on shoe really does seem to be making a popular come-back this summer time, they provide you with a casual look while also giving you the comfort and style that everyone is trying to achieve.

Yes, you are seeing correctly; these are skate shoes that have Bambi on them. The simple design of the skate shoe is given to us in leather, what’s not to like there, and having Bambi on the front gives them a feminine touch. I think these would be perfect with some black skinny jeans or leggings; you’ll be able to achieve a a biker look but show off your softer side too.

And for those that are looking for more of a statement

Hello animal print!! Confession time here, I don’t actually own any shoes that are animal print, but I would seriously consider buying these. I can’t tell you exactly what it is that i like about these, but I think they’re ah-mazing!! Teamed with a pair of dark jeans or even a dress I think they would look great for an off duty casual look.

And now something that is right on trend; the metallic slip on.  The silver glitter material will catch the light and make you the envy of everybody. These shoes enable you to have a casual look with that added touch of glamour; I think these would turn out to be the casual shoe that you turn to for so many occasions.

Really, who could resist any of these? I know I can’t.

Drive me crazy

So, I spent an amazing Monday morning walking around Harrods; I can’t tell you how much I love that shop, especially when there is a sale. I think it is perhaps one of my favorite shops to walk around the sale items because I can actually see loads of different shoes all together at a price which I can almost afford (ha)

It was there that is saw driving shoes by Tod’s. I’m always excited when I find a new pair of stylish flat shoes, it’s actually quite difficult to find a pair of shoes without a heel that don’t make you feel a bit like an old librarian from time to time. So, I was really happy to find these…

Tods Gommino Driving shoes £298

Tods Gommino Driving shoes £298

I love how simple yet stylish these are; a classic slip-on driving shoe with that added touch of embellishment. There is the slight chance that these could be seen as masculine, considering that there is a men’s range of these too, but i think the gold details really give an added feminine touch. Combined perfectly with some sharp tailoring these would make any outfit look outstanding.

Understated style and perfection. These nude shoes look like the kind of footwear that would immediately transport me into holiday mode every time I wore them. I love how the leather looks so soft, like they would give you foot a little hug and would be so comfortable (oh dear starting to sound like my mother wanting comfort over style) But I think these are actually the acceptable balance of comfort and style.

And for something a little bit more exciting how about these in a red scaled leather. I’m getting images of nautical outfits while walking along the canals in Rome or along a harbor in a beautiful Mediterranean city. These are perfect for an off duty look while wanting to maintain you usual level of style but giving your feet the day off from those razor sharp stilettos. Like Selfridges describes ‘the ultimate in cool and style.’

I’ll have one in every colour thanks!

Curves in all the right places

Designers of high heel shoes never cease to amaze me, I love how they can take an item so simple as a shoe with a heel and always find a way to re-invent it. When you think about it, there isn’t a lot to work with but each season designers say ‘here you go! You thought there was nothing new we could do with shoes, well here it is!’

The curved heel, something that may look like a disaster waiting to happen (especially for someone as clumsy as me) but I love how different they look. I’m sure that the curved heel is something that is not entirely new to the shoe scene, but for me, who has only been properly looking at the designs of shoes for short amount of time, they are amazing!

Walter Steiger, a completely new designer into my world, has brought the curved heel back into the fashion world…

Walter Steiger Curved Heel 229 euros

Part of me absolutely loves the design of these, I think it’s totally awesome how a classic like the court shoe is given a re-design. From the front you still have the classic look and elegance, but with the side profile you’re able to add that little bit of extra something to your look.
Then there is the other part of me that would seriously worry about my safety; I’d have some genuine worries about breaking the heel on these if I put too much weight on them. Yes, I understand that this is probably something that wouldn’t actually happen (well at least I hope not anyway).

But, back to the positive aspects of these, the animal print is always a classic look; I think combined with a beautiful black shift dress this would be a perfect look I’d be more than happy to wear.

Nickolas Kirkwood has also brought out a shoe which features the innovation of the curved heel…

Nicholas Kirkwood, Channie Boots £590

Nicholas Kirkwood, Channie Boots £590

Now these are something that is not for those that are looking for an understated look. On first glance these are a simple ankle boot, but looking closer you can see that there is in-fact two distinct shapes giving the impression of a court shoe and a pair of socks. Socks with shoes in a big trend this season so Kirckwood has been able to bring a style that is teaming two innovative designs.
I think the pearl detail in the crook of the heel is one of the beautiful little designs that makes these shoes something a little bit special. Once again from the front you have the impression of a classic shoe, then from the profile you’re given a completely new image.
Worn for a special occasion or something a little less formal, these would work fabulously with any outfit for those looking for something that’s a classic design with a twist.

Cut-Out Crazy

Cut- out detailing, it’s a way to turn your every day heels into something that’s a little bit more exciting and different; everybody knows the classic peep toe, but what about side cut outs? We’ve seen this before in winter ’13 with biker boots being given a new style but I’m living that the trend has continued but with summer shoes.

Summer sandals are beautiful and dainty, think thin straps and delicate tiny buckles that are a nightmare to use but look incredible! But what do you do when your style is just that one level more vibrant than barely there sandals and you really want to have your shoes as the main focus of your outfit??

You turn to Miss Sophia Webster, that’s what…

Sophia Webster Riko £525

Sophia Webster Riko £525

How amazing are these?!! My knowledge of Sophia Webster is pretty much non existent and I so wish I’d discovered this creative genius years ago! Just looking through a few of her designs they are full of colour, excitement and innovative designs! Looking at these Riko shoes, I’m immediately transported to a street party in Rio, I’m wearing a big floaty dress and pretending I can do the tango. The amount of detail here is incredible; the variety of colours, the criss-cross design across the front and the beautiful beaded bow at the back is just fantastic! The more you look at them, the more you discover a different aspect or element of detail that you missed the first time.

I did find another pair of cut out sandals by another designer, but when I looked at the materials used to make them, I saw it was snake skin and camel leather. I’m not an avid animal rights activist, but I don’t think I could promote such a shoe.

Wonderful Wedges

It seems that I may have missed out one of the most popular summer styles of shoes that continue to make an appearance each season. The wedge.

An oversight on my part, basically because I don’t have the co-ordination to wear shoes like this and because they would make me just far too tall, but wedges are the first sign that summer is on the way. They just seem to signify sunny days, walks on the beach, and late night gatherings with friends.

So, if I was able to wear such a style, these are a few that i’d love to be seen in….

Kurt Geiger Kola £99

Kurt Geiger Kola £99

I love the colour of these, the beige really will enhance some beautifully sun kissed legs and even better they will make your legs look super long, winning!! The suede material makes them amazingly soft and the tassel detail just makes them that little bit more fun and exciting. The double buckle fastening looks to me like you would be given that extra bit of support, always a bonus! But, I think what’s really different about these if the fact that it almost looks like two different shoes in one; the cork detail at the back makes them look like the classic wedge but the continuing of the suede material at the front to give the appearance of a separate platform almost. Combined with a cute little summer frock I think these wold be amazing!

LK Bennett Connie Espadrille £95

LK Bennett Connie Espadrille £95

Personally, these say Wimbledon all over! I love the blue and white stripe detail on the toes and even more so because of the cross over of the fabric, it gives an added dimension. The thin white ankle strap in leather makes a beautiful contrast to the raffia detail of the stripes, just too cute!! And last but not least, the espadrille style detail on the wedge heel is something so classic that you really can’t argue with it. I can see these being matched perfectly with a nautical inspired number or with a pair of white jeans.

Charlotte Olympia, Carmen, £525.

Now these are impressive; just look at that heel!! Standing at a towering 6 inches with a 2 inch platform, these are a dangerous weapon, yes I say weapon, these in the hands of the wrong person could be destructive! If i was wearing these, oh dear, it would not be a pretty sight to watch me fall over, many many times! I love how there is a classic court shoe just hiding in these; the red canvas sitting on top of the espadrille sole. The red piping really gives an extra detail to these beauties and would look stunning with a tropical print dress. I can see somebody wearing these strolling along a promenade or sitting outside a cafe in Paris. Outstanding!

If I could pull of wearing any of these, I’d be so happy!
